Classification Notice: Opening Credits Exception Current Status, Governing Conditions, and Applicable Precedents

On the Classification

The opening credits exception is a household viewing protocol in which a specific series is exempted from the standard skip-intro behavior applied to all other content. It is informal, unwritten, and enforced with moderate consistency. It has achieved a status the present notice describes as Protected Viewing Behavior.

Observation

Someone skips opening credits for most episodes but insists on watching them for one particular series. The series in question has opening credits lasting approximately ninety seconds. The credits contain a musical sequence that the relevant household member describes as part of the experience. The relevant household member also skips the opening credits of a series with an identical musical argument, without explanation.

Consequence One

Opening credits exception first consumes a few seconds that nobody considers worth discussing. The seconds are spent negotiating whether this is the series with the exception or the other series. The negotiation has a known resolution and still occurs.

Consequence Two

Those seconds acquire tools, reminders, and preferred techniques for doing them correctly. The preferred technique is for the person holding the remote to ask before pressing skip, rather than pressing skip and being asked to rewind. Rewinding to the opening credits is technically possible and creates a visible grievance. The question is the cheaper intervention.

Consequence Three

The routine eventually needs its own exception policy for the rare person who refuses to perform it. That person is a guest who pressed skip during a visit and was told, with patience, that this was not that kind of show. The guest accepted this. They did not return.

The Governing Rule

Uncertainty may be reduced only by adding a second check that creates a third question. The first check is: is skip-intro on. The second check is: is this the exception series. The third question is: did we already watch this episode and skip the credits last time without consequence.

The Contradiction

The subscription exists for relaxation. The opening credits exception exists because relaxation has requirements, and requirements have enforcement, and enforcement requires someone who remembers which show has the exception. That person knows. They are watching.

Classification: Pending Review

Review has not been requested. The exception series is still running.
