This document examines the counterfactual in which the subject declined the invitation at the time it was received, rather than accepting it and spending the intervening weeks regarding it as a future problem.
Counterfactual Branch One: Immediate Decline

Counterfactual Branch Two: Conditional Acceptance

The conditional acceptance is the most common variant. It produces no different outcome and adds two additional anxiety checkpoints.
