Terms Governing Blanket Foot Escape

One foot remains outside the blanket. This is not a mistake. This is thermoregulation policy.

TERMS GOVERNING BLANKET FOOT ESCAPE

Effective: from the moment it was first attempted. Updated: every night since.

Article I: Definitions

"Blanket foot escape" refers to the practice of maintaining full-body coverage under a blanket while deliberately positioning one foot, or both feet to the ankle, outside the blanket's lower edge.

"The body" means the sleeping or pre-sleep occupant subject to these Terms.

"The blanket" means any covering of sufficient weight and coverage to create thermal discomfort when applied at full deployment.

"The problem" means the body running too warm. The problem has a simple solution. These Terms exist because the simple solution is not available.

Article II: Operational Scope

The blanket foot escape is deployed as a temperature-regulation strategy in cases where full coverage is desired for comfort but creates excess warmth within a period of approximately four to eleven minutes.

No one may correct blanket foot escape unless they are willing to own the replacement procedure. The replacement procedure does not exist. Corrections are therefore not available.

Article III: Escalation Clause

The first use of blanket foot escape resolves the immediate problem. Temperature declines to acceptable. Sleep proceeds.

The accommodation becomes part of the expected sequence. Someone else in the bed begins to anticipate it. The behavior becomes shared knowledge without anyone announcing it.

Later, covering both feet fully throughout the night feels physically and procedurally incorrect. The ritual is now load-bearing.

Article IV: The Contradiction

The ritual is intended to make sleep easier. It adds one ongoing variable to the pre-sleep state: the foot must be positioned. Too far out and the leg becomes cold. Not far enough and the effect is lost. The body monitors this. The body is now tracking a foot.

This gives wakefulness one more detail to manage.

Article V: Duration and Termination

Blanket foot escape is considered stable once removing it would require an explicit conversation. That conversation would involve explaining to a co-occupant or to oneself that a nightly thermal management strategy adopted over many months is being discontinued. The explanation is available. Nobody gives it.

Termination of these Terms has not been scheduled.

By proceeding to sleep under any blanket in the presence of ambient warmth, all parties accept these Terms unconditionally.
