Whenever layoff gratitude post feels safer than waiting, repetition must count as due diligence.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS Governing the Use of Layoff Gratitude Post (LGP) Effective: 2021 and continuing indefinitely

Article 1: The Initiating Condition

Someone announces losing a job while carefully thanking the same organization in the opening paragraphs. The user accepts these terms by publishing. The user also accepts them by reading and recognizing the format before reaching the second paragraph.

Article 2: Format Specifications

The layoff gratitude post follows a structure that is not described anywhere and is reproduced nearly identically by people who have never met. The structure is:

  1. Acknowledgment that something has ended, framed as a chapter closing rather than an interruption
  2. Gratitude directed at the organization responsible for the ending
  3. Gratitude directed at colleagues, named or unnamed, described as "incredible" or "talented" or "the real reason I stayed"
  4. A sentence about what comes next that is hopeful but not specific enough to be wrong
  5. A call to connect that is addressed to the network but intended for recruiters

The post aims to sound personal. The most personal moments often arrive in the most familiar script.

Article 3: The Compliance Problem

Someone repeats layoff gratitude post to avoid one uncertain moment. The uncertain moment is the period between the announcement and the first recruiter response, during which the professional feed is the only available evidence of how the news is being received.

A second person copies the behavior because the repetition looks like experience. The second person has not been laid off. They have simply observed that the format produces responses and have stored it for later use.

The group eventually treats the copied behavior as the safest available standard.

Article 4: The Contradiction

Uncertainty may be reduced only by adding a second check that creates a third question. The first check is whether the post sounds appropriately grateful. The second check is whether the gratitude sounds genuine. The third question is whether genuine gratitude is possible or even appropriate toward an organization that has just ended the employment relationship.

This question is not answered in the post. It is not answered here either.

Article 5: Governing Terms

These terms govern layoff gratitude post until a different format produces better outcomes. No such format has been formally proposed. The existing format continues to produce responses. These terms remain in effect.

You accept them by connecting.
