Application for Recognition of Warmup Shortcut
Subject requests formal recognition that skipping the warmup when time is short is a reasonable and studied decision.
APPLICATION FOR RECOGNITION OF WARMUP SHORTCUT
Applicant: The person who shortens a warmup when time is limited
Form: Official Application
Status: Submitted for the record
Section 1 , Nature of the Request
The applicant seeks formal recognition that the practice of abbreviating or bypassing a warmup routine when time pressure exists constitutes a sound operational choice rather than a concession to circumstances that the applicant could have avoided by leaving earlier.
The applicant wishes it noted that the warmup was not forgotten. It was assessed and determined to be reducible.
Section 2 , Supporting Evidence
The applicant has completed warmup shortcuts on a substantial number of prior occasions. No injury occurred on most of those occasions. The applicant presents this as a success rate, rather than as incomplete information about the one occasion on which an injury did occur, which is not mentioned in this application.
A shortened warmup has, over sufficient repetitions, become procedurally equivalent to a complete one, the difference being that the complete warmup takes four minutes and the shortened one takes forty-five seconds.
Section 3 , Circumstances of This Application
Time was limited. The applicant had nine minutes before the gym would close, or the class would start, or the available motivation would expire. A full warmup would have consumed four of those nine minutes. The applicant made a judgment call.
The applicant notes that limited time is exactly when an injury would be most inconvenient, and proceeds to skip the warmup anyway. This application does not address the logical relationship between those two facts.
Section 4 , Precedent
The applicant has done this before. The precedent holds.
Section 5 , Request
The applicant requests that the warmup shortcut be officially recognized as a legitimate part of the fitness routine rather than a recurring act of self-negotiation that the applicant loses every time while believing otherwise.
Recognition is also sought for the longer-than-usual workout planned for next time, which will include a full warmup. The date of that workout has not been specified.
Submitted in good faith and some haste.
