Incident Record: Elevator Guilt
The elevator was taken once, and the entire fitness plan is now under review as a result.
Incident Record: Elevator Guilt
Incident Date: This morning Incident Type: Single-floor elevator usage generating disproportionate consequence Contributing Factors: Recent fitness commitment, presence of visible staircase
Summary
The subject arrived at the building at 8:47 AM carrying a bag of moderate weight and pressed the elevator button on the ground floor. The elevator arrived. The subject entered. The subject traveled to floor 3.
The staircase was visible from the lobby and is in good working order.
Contributing Factors
The subject has been, as of last Monday, in what is internally described as "a more active phase." The more active phase includes: taking the stairs when possible, walking to the far platform at the metro, and consuming more water. The stairs element was the anchor commitment.
The elevator was pressed at 8:47 AM, before the phase could be consulted.
Exercise plans may be redesigned whenever elevator guilt makes the next session feel less clean.
Consequence Assessment
The elevator ride took 23 seconds. The staircase would have taken 58 seconds and 28 steps. The bag weighed approximately 4 kilograms. By any objective measure, the incident was unremarkable.
By the subject's internal measure, the incident was sufficient to revise the week's accounting. The staircase commitment was downgraded from active to aspirational. The more active phase was acknowledged to have begun imperfectly.
Elevator Guilt produces one visible sign of commitment: the guilt itself. That guilt attracts more planning about how to keep the commitment intact.
Remediation
The subject walked to a farther coffee location than usual. The additional distance was approximately 400 meters. This was not logged but was noted.
The training plan was reviewed at lunch. No changes were made. The review itself was considered sufficient.
Status:
The elevator will be taken again. The guilt will recur, though diminishing slightly each instance unless a significant commitment renewal occurs in the interim.
The fitness system has excellent administration and inconsistent elevator avoidance.
No further escalation required.
