Status Report on Portfolio Percentage Math

The asset must rise 87 percent to break even. This has been calculated four times today.

The original calculation was performed in November. The asset was purchased at a price that seemed reasonable at the time. It was reasonable at the time. Between November and March, conditions changed.

The current price is the current price. The purchase price is remembered with precision.

The gap between them has a mathematical relationship that can be expressed as a percentage. This percentage is not new information. This percentage was calculated on Monday. It was recalculated on Tuesday because the price had moved slightly and the new percentage needed to be established. The new percentage was marginally worse.

The calculation was performed again on Wednesday. Portfolio percentage math is precise phenomenon: the person who calculates how far an asset must rise to get back to the original purchase price has discovered that the asset must rise a different percentage than it must fall to return to the same level. This is basic arithmetic about percentages. It is not comforting.

A loss of fifty percent requires a gain of one hundred percent to recover. This was learned in November. It continues to be re-learned.

Uncertainty may be converted into certainty by checking the same number again under identical conditions. The conditions are identical. The number changes slightly. The certainty produced by the check lasts approximately three hours before the uncertainty reconstitutes.

After repetition, other people begin adjusting their behavior around portfolio percentage math. A housemate has stopped asking how the investments are doing. The subject has stopped mentioning it. A domestic policy has been established without negotiation.

The policy is: we do not discuss this.

The check cannot change the price. This is understood. The check changes the mood as if an action occurred. The mood adjustment is small and temporary. The calculation is performed anyway because a small and temporary mood adjustment is better than no information, even when the information has not changed.

Eventually portfolio percentage math acquires an unwritten enforcement system that everyone denies creating. The exchange app is checked at predictable intervals. The intervals have not been stated aloud. They are approximately four hours. Nobody set this schedule.

The preliminary finding is as follows: the asset must rise eighty-seven percent from current price to break even. This finding has been confirmed multiple times.

The finding has not changed.

Nothing about the finding will change the price.
