The Office Observes Shower Temperature Testing
The shower reaches its final temperature within ninety seconds, and the subject's hand has been testing it for four minutes.

The shower is turned on. The pipes require time to deliver warm water. This is a physical constraint and it is reasonable. The hand is placed under the stream. The water is cold. The hand is withdrawn. This is also reasonable.
II.
Thirty seconds pass. The hand is returned. Water is warmer. Hand is withdrawn. Another thirty seconds.
III.
The water is now at the intended temperature. The hand test registers this. Hand is withdrawn. The subject stands beside the shower, which is running at the correct temperature, and performs one more hand test.
The hand test confirms: correct temperature.
One more hand test. Still correct.
IV.
The behavior after confirmation is the behavior worth documenting. Before confirmation, the hand test is diagnostic. After confirmation, it is something else: a small ritual of verification that the system requires before it can be trusted to hold.
The shower will not change temperature spontaneously. The infrastructure is stable. The hand test is not adding information. It is adding certainty, which is a different product and one that hand tests cannot manufacture in unlimited quantities.
Governing Rule: Under the applicable standard, shower temperature testing may be postponed until discomfort converts it into an emergency. It did not need to be converted. The temperature was fine. The testing continued.
